Setting up Source Chats

What It Does

The /incoming command allows you to set up the source (or "incoming") chats that Auto_Forwarder_Bot will monitor. These are the chats from which messages will be forwarded to your target chat. An incoming chat can be a group, channel, bot, or even a direct message.

Prerequisite

  • Authorization: Before using this command, you must authorize Auto_Forwarder_Bot using the /authorize command. Without authorization, Auto_Forwarder_Bot cannot access your chats

  • Pinned Chats: The chats you want to set as incoming must be pinned in your Telegram app. This helps Auto_Forwarder_Bot easily identify them for setup.

How to Use It

  • Pin the chat(s) in Telegram:

    1. Open Telegram and navigate to the chat (group, channel, bot, or direct message) you want to use as an incoming chat.

    2. Pin the chat by long-pressing the chat and selecting the pin icon (usually located at the top of the chat options). Auto_Forwarder_Bot can only recognize pinned chats. For more detailed instructions, visit here.

  • Send the /incoming command:

    1. Open a chat with Auto_Forwarder_Bot in Telegram.

    2. Type and send the /incoming command.

  • View your pinned chats:

    1. Auto_Forwarder_Bot displays a list of the top 16 chats in reverse chronological order, with the most recently messaged chats at the top. Pinned chats are prioritized and appear at the top of the list.

  • Select the incoming chat:

    1. Each chat will be assigned a number in the list.

    2. Select the button the corresponding number of the chat you want to designate as an incoming source and send it to Auto_Forwarder_Bot.

Real-Life Use Cases

  • Forward Important Messages: If you manage a support group and want to forward critical customer queries from a Telegram group to a private team channel, you can set the support group as an incoming chat.

  • Family Updates: If you have a general friends' group but want to forward specific family-related messages to another group for close family members, set the general group as an incoming chat.

  • Information Aggregation: You’re part of multiple hobby groups (e.g., for gaming, cooking, photography), and want to forward all hobby-related updates to a single “interest hub” chat for easy management.

Removing an Incoming Chat

If you no longer want to forward messages from an incoming chat:

  • Use the /remove_incoming command.

  • A list of your currently configured incoming chats will appear.

  • Select the chat you want to remove by its corresponding number.
